Our history
70's:
Pioneer period
A strong belief becomes a business
It all started in 1974 with the drive to develop solutions for an industry with many challenges but also opportunities. Entrepreneur Jan Sundell was passionate from the start about what would become Westmatic's hallmark; sustainable wholeness and efficiency. The strength in being able to add an environmentally friendly dimension to fantastic washing results, operational reliability and other purely functional features.
The following year, 1975, the first water recycling EMÅ-300 was manufactured and another year later, 1976, a garbage can washing plant was built in collaboration with Electrolux in Copenhagen.
At the beginning of the decade, the very first Westmatic machine was launched, which was delivered to Scania Hovsjö.
In 1984, Westmatic AB was formed and the name manifested itself in the first truck wash named Westmatic No 1, which was delivered to Scania in Södertälje. No 2 was installed the following year in 1985 at Ljungby Lastbilstvätt. A brand and an authority within its segments took its place.
In 1988, the first hydraulic 4-brush machine was installed.
80's:
A brand is born

Innovationstider
New factory, new opportunities
1990 begins with the construction of a new modern facility in the Falleberg area, which opens up new opportunities.
The cleaner is developed and patented in 1994. The innovation is awarded the Värmland Development Fund's Creation Prize and scholarship during a ceremony at the Stockholm Technical Fair. As a clear example of our efficiency, a large train washing facility is designed, built and delivered within four weeks to Aarhus in Denmark in 1995.
Westmatic takes operational reliability and efficiency to the next level in 1996 with the launch of WASH and WASH CONTROL.
International interest is growing and in 1998 the first order comes from Sarnia in Canada. The following year, in 1999, the first train wash and machine are delivered to North America.
In 2003, Jan Sundell was named Entrepreneur of the Year in Arvika. In the same year, a complete laundry hall was delivered to Infantry Regiment I5 in Östersund.
The group grows and in 2005 the Westmatic Group is founded at the same time as Westmatic Corporation Ltd is formed.
On the business side, many positive things are happening, including a large order for train washing from VR Finnish Railways in 2006 and the construction of a new production facility in Cheektowaga, Buffalo in 2009.

Interest is growing worldwide
Innovation and product development continue with unabated vigor and in 2011 the first hybrid machine is delivered to Try-it Beverage Distributing.
Westmatic is becoming an increasingly prominent player internationally and is recognized by receiving The International Transport Awards' prestigious award, The Golden Chariot, in 2012.
Other visible results are how the trains for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi shine thanks to Westmatic's large train washing facility. Westmatic is exposed on a big screen in Times Square in New York in 2016. The year before, in 2015, seven machines are delivered to Marta, Atlanta, USA. In 2017, the current
CEO Per Andersson takes the helm and in 2018 opens a sales and service office in Los Angeles. An important milestone that same year is also the launch of Viking.
Westmatic continues to grow on several continents and in 2020, Westmatic opens an office in Adelaide, Australia and the following year, in 2021, a new factory is inaugurated in Buffalo, USA. The successes arouse interest and in 2022, Lagercrantz Group buys Westmatic, which now has a turnover of 141 million in Sweden.
Time flies when you're having fun and in 2024 Westmatic will be 50 years old! We can sum up a fantastic first half century, but our aim is, as always, constantly moving forward. To continue developing sustainable and clean results.
